Our grooved rollers are produced using cutting edge material science with an advanced composite material. Our composite material has an outstanding combination of strength, toughness and wear resistance. This engineering material is injection molded over a knurled, heavy walled steel tube. The knurling helps lock the composite material onto the tube. This process allows us to hold a tight tolerance in total indicated run-out. (See figures 1 and 2.)

Additionally, this molding process allows us to mold in complex geometry, such as secondary grooves and dimples. This irregular geometry gives a less continuous surface for grass and debris to adhere to. (See figure 3.)

Another benefit of the injection molding process is the ability to mold in additives. For example, we mold in a siloxane polymer that lowers the surface coefficient of friction. This is the same type of polymer that is added to high-end car waxes to promote water beading on the surface. We can also mold in anti-microbial agents to reduce the spread of disease.

Our advances in material science and engineering do not end with the roller cover; we have designed our rollers with low maintenance and bearing flexibility in mind. GreenLynx grooved rollers are available with either 30mm universal water pump bearing sets or 30mm ABEC 3 rated dual stainless bearing sets packed with marine grade grease.

GreenLynx composite rollers manufactured with the ABEC 3 stainless bearing sets are built with stainless shafts to minimize the environmental effects of fertilizer and moisture. Our water pump bearings sets are inclusive of the shaft.

In the event it becomes necessary to rebuild any of our rollers, we have taken care to assemble all of our rollers with anti-seize; this will aide in bearing removal and replacement.

STAINLESS STEEL ABEC 3 RATED DUAL BEARING SETS

For our rollers with dual stainless bearings, we have specified an ABEC 3 rated bearing with a dual labyrinth lip seal and a special grade marine grease. The Annular Bearing Engineering Council (ABEC) specifies standards for various grades of bearings. Unless otherwise specified, all “standard” bearings are ABEC 1 rated; the scale ranges from 1 to 9, with 9 being the most precise bearing manufacturable. GreenLynx’s higher rating of 3, over the industry standard of 1, denotes our bearings are held to tighter tolerances on the outer race, the inner race, and the balls themselves. In addition to a higher quality bearing, GreenLynx takes the additional step of having dual bearings on each end of the roller. This dual bearing design allows for greater static and dynamic loading as well as improved shock management. (See figure 4 and figure 5 for an exploded view.)

The special marine grade grease used in our ABEC 3 rated dual stainless bearings has a four ball weld load of 640 kg; nearly twice the load of a standard grease. In a water wash out test, our grease has a 0.5 percent loss—a standard grease will have a 3.0 to 7.0 percent loss in this same test. These advantages are significant in minimizing the environmental effects from fertilizer and moisture.

CARBON STEEL AND STAINLESS STEEL SMOOTH ROLLERS

GreenLynx manufactures a series of smooth carbon and smooth stainless steel rollers (see figure 6). All of our smooth rollers are centerless ground to improve concentricity; this process ensures concentricity between the bearing bore and the outer shell. First, the end caps are welded in place and then the entire roller is centerless ground to a tight tolerance. We use a robotic welding process to achieve a consistent quality weld. In final assembly, the tube is bored for the bearings to a tight tolerance. We offer 30mm universal water pump bearings and 40mm dual standard bearings for our carbon steel rollers. Our stainless steel smooth rollers are manufactured with a stainless steel shaft and 40mm ABEC 3 rated dual stainless bearing sets packed with marine grade grease. All of our steel rollers are assembled with anti-seize to ease the task of bearing removal and replacement.
